Mine just does straight, zig zag, and the combination 6 straight one zig for hemming. It's a Singer in a Sears cabinet. I made all of my work skirts and pants, vest, and blazers for about 10 years. Didn't do much sewing for the kids because I could hit Macy's clearance for less than buying fabric & patterns.
Mom's Singer is in a fancy Singer cabinet. It's about 1960, and it has those bobbins that make all the fancy stitches, plus the various tuckers & buttonholers. Then there's Grandma's from the 30's or early 40's at best, Singer straight stitch. I love the tiger oak cabinet its it and have been using it as an end table because it's so pretty. My Aunt has Grandma's treadle machine.
I watched Paula serging away and did think about how useful it would be... but I'm not doing anything more than recycling blue jeans into grocery sacks - put the meat in the jeans, and if it leaks, toss it in the wash!
