I got my Sears sewing machine for my 16th birthday...and it's still chugging along! It's a heavy mother....but it works well and considering I don't do as much sewing as I used to, that's OK.

I wanted a serger...then decided I wouldn't actually use it as much as I dreamed I would! So, didn't buy one.

I have los of bobbins, and foots (feet?) and accessories. It was a really nice one for the time. They don't make them like they used to!!!!

Mine just does straight, zig zag, and the combination 6 straight one zig for hemming. It's a Singer in a Sears cabinet. I made all of my work skirts and pants, vest, and blazers for about 10 years. Didn't do much sewing for the kids because I could hit Macy's clearance for less than buying fabric & patterns.

Mom's Singer is in a fancy Singer cabinet. It's about 1960, and it has those bobbins that make all the fancy stitches, plus the various tuckers & buttonholers. Then there's Grandma's from the 30's or early 40's at best, Singer straight stitch. I love the tiger oak cabinet its it and have been using it as an end table because it's so pretty. My Aunt has Grandma's treadle machine.

I watched Paula serging away and did think about how useful it would be... but I'm not doing anything more than recycling blue jeans into grocery sacks - put the meat in the jeans, and if it leaks, toss it in the wash!

My Grandma had me sewing & crocheting before I started first grade. I had the NEED to be creating with my hands even at that age. I dinna inherit her unbelievable artistic ablitiy to sketch & paint though - T1 did, guess it skipped two generations. My Uncle was showing me some photos of pictures she did when she was 10-12 years old. Unbelievable!

I was taught quite a bit of crotchet when I was little, I wish I could remember more of it.

I taught myself to crochet with a book. I have no patience for knotting--moves too slow!

I agree with Rich---I have had to create something with my hands all my life. Man, there were some very wierd art projects when I was young. I learned to whittle at girl scout camp--but I haventl done that in years. Something else I di at girl scout camp was set up campfires--kinda creative since I learned different formations for laying out the wood for the fire. I was teased that I was the camp pyromaniac!

You know, I still like a good campfire---I just don't have the opportunity to set one up very often anymore!
